Maker Activities

The following "maker activities" are not classified by level as I believe they can be used with many different levels with only slights modifications, if any. In fact, some of these activities could even be repeated throughout a learner's journey. Wouldn't it be interesting to see the evolution of the language development and personal interests of the students from Grade 3 to Secondary 5 through their t-shirt designs for instance. Whichever level you decide to use these design activities with, it's the language development intentions that will change.

Me, Myself and MY Shoes

IN MY SHOES

They say shoes reflect personality. Well, now is the time for your students to let you know more about them by designing their own sneakers. Depending on the level of your students and their language development needs, they will either create a short description of their sneakers or an advertisement to sell them. You will find different options available for the carrying out of the activity. Choose the one that fits your students best as well as the option that is the most suited to your digital situation.

DESIGN AN EXPERIENCE

Mini golf might feel like a monotonous activity for some people. In this lesson, students will learn about interesting mini golf courses from around the world. They will listen to mini golf courses designers talk about their creations: the tornado hole and grandma's trunk hole. They will then reflect and design their own thematic three-hole mini golf course.

T-SHIRT DESIGN

I truly believe that taking the time to build a relationship with students is vital. The more I know about them, the easiest it is to build that relationship. Here's an activity I've used this week to get to learn the students. The students design their t-shirt to showcase their interests, hobbies and favorite stuff. In this Google Slides, you will find my personal t-shirt and a model text for students. However, I invited you to create your own t-shirt design.
